Tooltips not appearing properly on 8.0.1 on Linux

Recently, for both 7.3 and 8.0.1, whenever I hover over certain things, I get boxes instead of text. It looks like below, and happens for all buttons in that bar, when hovering over things in the editor(both text and line number light bulbs; but not ctrl-space completions), when entering text into the wizards(including project properties and IDE Options).
When typing things into a text box, it appears as boxes as well

When upgrading from 7.3 to 8.0.1, I used the EE installer, and opted to import my settings.

Here is some info:

openSUSE 13.1, using Oracle's Java.
